RSG PLANS HAVE 85% IMMUNIZATION COVERAGE



The Rivers State Government has announced its desire to achieve an 85% coverage on immunization this year. This goal was announced by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo at the first quarterly meeting of the Rivers State Task Force on Immunization, which held on  Tuesday, in Port Harcourt.

In her opening address, Dr. Ipalibo stated that the Rivers State Government is committed to immunizing its children against polio and other infant killer diseases. She said the state’s vision is to “achieve at least, 85% coverage on immunization of children.” She sought the cooperation of parents to ensure that their children are issued the vaccines. She added that Nigeria has now reached 18 months free of polio, and requires another 18 months to achieve eradication.

“I call on mothers to bring out their children for immunization, your support is highly solicited we really need to reach these children. In Nigeria we have achieved 18 months Polio free status we need another 18 months to achieve eradication”

The meeting had in attendance, donor agencies, armed forces, Civil Society Organizations, the media, traditional rulers, and religious leaders. The task force was re-inaugurated by the Rivers State Government in 2016.
