UPTH EXTENDS DATE FOR MASS BURIAL OF UNCLAIMED CORPSES




The Management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has extended the deadline given to relatives of unclaimed bodies in the hospital’s morgue to come and claim the corpses. The Hospital on March 5th, issued a two weeks’ ultimatum, but have announced in a statement signed by the Chief Medical Officer, Henry Ugboma that it has extended the deadline for another two weeks.


The hospital complained that there were over 800 unclaimed bodies at its morgue, some for more than 10 years. According to Dr. Henry, this have caused congestion, and the hospital could running out of spaces for new corpses.


UPTH is expected to conduct a mass burial for bodies that remain unclaimed after the expiration of the deadline.
