Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rivers State government has launched a groundbreaking scholarship program at Eastwing Aviation Institute, aiming to empower local youth and address the global shortage of skilled aviation professionals.
The program, fully sponsored by the Rivers State government, provides scholarships to qualified indigenes of the state for training in AW139 helicopter engineering. This initiative aligns with Governor Siminalayi Fubara's vision for economic development, skill acquisition, and technological advancement within the state.
Eligibility and Selection Process:
Applicants for the scholarship program must possess an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license and provide documentation proving their Rivers State indigeneity. Dr. Stanley Pepple, who coordinated the selection process, emphasized the fairness and transparency of the selection process, which involved public advertisements inviting eligible youth to submit their applications.
Impact and Future Plans:
Ten Rivers State indigenes have already successfully completed their training at Eastwing Aviation Institute under this program.
Mr. Christopher Edeh, CEO of Eastwing Aviation Institute, expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for this impactful initiative.
Edeh further emphasized that the program will continue with the next batch of training commencing soon. He believes this initiative will position Rivers State as a hub for aviation training and expertise, effectively addressing the looming shortage of pilots and engineers in the industry.
This initiative demonstrates the Rivers State government's commitment to investing in the future of its youth and fostering economic growth within the aviation sector.
