Rivers Assembly Defection Case Adjourned to February 17th

The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned the hearing in a legal battle between two factions of the Rivers State House of Assembly to February 17th, 2025.

The lawsuit was filed by lawmakers loyal to Governor Siminialayi Fubara against 27 legislators who defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Fubara-aligned lawmakers are challenging the legitimacy of the defectors' continued representation in the Assembly.

During Tuesday's court session, counsel for the plaintiffs, Ferdinand Orbih, informed the court that certain crucial documents were missing from the case file. Mr. Orbih subsequently requested an adjournment to locate these missing documents. This request was not opposed by any of the parties involved in the case.
