Port Harcourt Customs Command Celebrates Record Promotions


The recent promotion ceremony at the Port Harcourt Area II Customs Command in Onne has drawn praise from Mr. Chidera Oganuzor, Chairman/CEO of Odest Global Resources. Oganuzor lauded Comptroller Mohammed Babandede for his leadership, citing the command's record-breaking 14 Comptrollers and numerous other promoted officers as a historic achievement.

Comptroller Babandede expressed his delight at the command's success in the promotion list, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of his officers. He emphasized that promotion is a privilege, urging recipients to maintain integrity, dedication, and professionalism. He also encouraged those who were not promoted to remain patient. Babandede recognized the crucial role families play in officers' success.

Oganuzor, a maritime expert, highlighted the promotions within his own bonded terminal, including a Comptroller and several other officers. He expressed optimism that a future Comptroller-General might emerge from the terminal. He praised Babandede's impact on customs operations at Onne, particularly his efforts in combating smuggling, facilitating legitimate trade, and ensuring national security. Oganuzor attributed the command's increased seizures and revenue generation to Babandede's leadership. He also spoke about the positive working relationship between his terminal and Customs officers, emphasizing synergy and cooperation.

The 2024 promotion list included 14 Deputy Comptrollers promoted to Comptroller, 6 Assistant Comptrollers to Deputy Comptroller, and 17 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Comptroller, along with numerous other promotions across various ranks. Eight officers also received special promotions for their role in intercepting a large cache of weapons and ammunition.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Port Manager of Onne Port Complex, representatives from various government agencies, and freight forwarding associations.
