Port Harcourt, Rivers State - Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has issued a directive mandating the implementation of the N85,000 minimum wage for local government workers across the state. The governor's order was given during the inauguration ceremony for the newly appointed chairmen and members of both the Local Government Service Commission and the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) Service Commission held at Government House, Port Harcourt over the weekend.
Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of the new wage and charged local government chairmen with ensuring its swift implementation within their respective councils. He further instructed the newly inaugurated Local Government Service Commission to provide the necessary support to the executive chairmen in achieving this goal.
The governor's move signals a commitment to improving the welfare of local government employees in Rivers State. The newly inaugurated Local Government Service Commission, led by Chairman GoodLife Ben, will play a crucial role in overseeing this process. Other members of the commission include Chief Emmanuel G. Jaja, Ms. Betty Warmate, Barrister Jerome Chimenem, Prince O. Ohochukwu, Philip Okparaji, and Christian Amadi.
Also inaugurated at the ceremony was the Rivers State House of Assembly Commission, with Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja as Chairman. Dr. Kennedy Ebeku, Soberekon Clark, Jones Ogbonda, and Kingston Sylvanus will serve as members of this commission. The establishment of these commissions underscores the state government's dedication to strengthening governance and service delivery at both the local government and state assembly levels.
