Rivers Assembly bombing: Court restrains Police, SSS from arresting Fubara’s Chief of Staff, Ehie

Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the suspended Rivers State Governor, has secured a restraining order from a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, preventing the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) from inviting, arresting, or detaining him. Justice I.P.C. Igwe delivered the ruling on Thursday, following a lawsuit filed by Ehie. His legal action addresses accusations made by Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service, regarding the arson attack on the Rivers State House of Assembly on October 29, 2023. The interim injunction forbids the Inspector-General of Police, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, the Director-General of the DSS, and other security bodies from summoning, detaining, or intimidating Ehie while the court considers the matter. Justice Igwe emphasized the need to protect Ehie's rights pending a full hearing and instructed all parties to maintain the status quo as of March 30, 2025, until the next hearing on April 30, 2025. Ehie is required to provide a N2 million guarantee should his main request be unsuccessful. His suit, numbered PHC/1113/CS/2025, seeks protection from alleged harassment and threats of arrest stemming from statements reportedly made by Dr. Nwaeke on March 27, 2025.
