Port Harcourt joined the Barinada family and the people of Rivers State South-East Senatorial District in grief today, April 11, 2026, as the funeral church service of the Late Distinguished Senator Barry Mpigi Barinada, PhD, DSSRS, was held at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Ogoni, Koroma Deanery, Beth-el Church, Koroma.
The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS, JP, was in attendance alongside the PHALGA Leader of the Rainbow Coalition, Eze Rt. Hon. Ken Chikere, DSSRS — a show of solidarity from the city's leadership to honour a distinguished statesman.
Until his passing, Senator Barinada served as the Senator representing the Rivers State South-East Senatorial District. He was 64 years old.
Commiserating with the bereaved family, Mayor Ihunda prayed for God's strength and fortitude upon all who mourn the irreparable loss of a man whose life was described as fulfilled, impactful, and well-lived.
