Infrastructure Despite Instability: Governor Fubara Flags Off Phase II of Port Harcourt Ring Road

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – November 20, 2025 – Despite the intense political turbulence gripping Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara today sent a clear message of his administration's focus by presiding over the flag-off ceremony for the second phase of the ambitious Port Harcourt Ring Road Project.

The event, held amid the deepening rift with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was seen by many observers as a deliberate attempt by the Governor to re-focus public attention on infrastructural development and governance.

Project Significance and Scope

The Port Harcourt Ring Road is one of the most critical infrastructure projects slated for the state, designed specifically to:

  1. Significantly ease the crippling traffic congestion plaguing the Port Harcourt metropolis.

  2. Connect several key local government areas without passing through the city center.

  3. Boost commerce by providing a bypass for heavy-duty vehicles and easing logistics.

The newly flagged-off Phase II of the project marks a significant expansion of the initial scope. This phase will extend the road network into two major local government areas: Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre LGAs, further solidifying the connection between the capital city and its surrounding regions.

 Prioritizing Governance Over Political Squabbles

During the ceremony, Governor Fubara emphasized that his administration remains dedicated to delivering essential services, irrespective of the political headwinds.

"We are not going to be deterred by distractions. Our mandate is to serve the people of Rivers State, and this Ring Road project is a promise kept. The people deserve development, not political theatrics." — Governor Siminalayi Fubara

Many residents have hailed the flag-off as a positive sign, indicating that the Governor is actively prioritizing tangible development over the contentious legislative and executive battles that have dominated headlines for months. The continuity of this high-cost project signals an administration keen on leaving a legacy of infrastructural impact.
