The protracted power struggle in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, remains the dominant news story. Recent efforts by a high-level committee from the National Assembly (NASS), appointed to mediate the dispute, have reportedly failed to establish a lasting peace, leaving the state in renewed political uncertainty.
Reports confirm that the NASS delegation concluded its visit to Port Harcourt today, having been unable to secure full compliance from both the Governor's and the Minister's camps regarding the prescribed peace resolutions. A major sticking point is the unresolved legal and constitutional status of the defected lawmakers(those who switched allegiance from the PDP to the APC).
The consequence of this continued deadlock is political instability, leading to concerns about legislative paralysis and funding uncertainty for key state projects. The failure of the federal intervention suggests that the resolution of the crisis will likely revert back to the courts or await a decisive political move by either of the principal actors.
