A chilling incident that could have resulted in multiple fatalities was narrowly avoided in Port Harcourt after a 14-year-old girl allegedly attempted to wipe out her own family members.
The teenager was reportedly brought from the village to the city to assist her elder half-sister, who had recently given birth. However, instead of being a helping hand, the situation took a dark turn.
The Details
According to reports reaching Port Harcourt Blog, the young girl allegedly laced the family’s meal with rat poison. Those targeted in the suspected poisoning included:
Her elder half-sister (the nursing mother).
Her sister’s father-in-law.
Her sister’s mother-in-law.
A Miraculous Escape
By what many are calling an act of God, the plot failed. Sources indicate that the family members did not consume enough of the tainted food to cause fatal harm, or the substance was detected before it could take full effect. Thankfully, no lives were lost.
The Rising Concern
This shocking story has sparked a heated debate among residents of the Garden City regarding the safety of bringing very young relatives from the village to serve as domestic help (house-helps).
While the motives behind the girl's actions remain unclear, many are pointing to the psychological strain, resentment, or possible maltreatment that children often face in these "nanny" roles.
PH City, what’s your take on this? Is it time we stop bringing young children from the village to work as helps, or was this just a case of a "bad seed"?
