Governor Fubara Reaffirms Loyalty to APC Amid Rising Defection Rumors

PORT HARCOURT – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially cleared the air regarding his political future, dismissing widespread speculations that he intended to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The Governor chose a high-profile inspection tour of healthcare facilities in Obio/Akpor to address the "social media drama" that has dominated local political discourse for the past week.

The rumors gained traction following high-profile defections at the national level, with many suggesting Fubara was seeking a new platform amidst internal party frictions. However, while standing at the site of the newly completed General Hospital in Rumuigbo, the Governor was emphatic: "I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their personal interpretation of events to misrepresent me."

Fubara explained that his administration’s priority is delivering on the "Rivers First" mandate. He noted that the rehabilitation of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo was a response to a critical gap in mental health services in the state. During the tour, he also highlighted the strategic location of the new General Hospital, which is designed to serve the densely populated communities of Rumuola and Rumuolumeni. "We realized there was no General Hospital serving the people in this axis," he said, noting that the project is now 100% complete. For the people of Port Harcourt, this clarification provides a moment of political stability, shifting the focus from party optics back to state-wide developmental milestones.
