BIG SHIFT? 🇳🇬 Senate Considers Single 6-Year Tenure for President and Governors

The Nigerian Senate is moving to debate a major constitutional change that could alter how we choose our leaders. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has revealed plans to introduce a bill proposing a single 6-year tenure for the President and state governors.

The Goal: Supporters argue that the current 4-year, two-term system forces leaders to spend too much time on re-election campaigns. A single 6-year term is intended to allow them to focus entirely on governance and delivering their mandates from day one.

The Big Question:

If this passes, it would take effect after the 2027 general elections.

We want to hear from YOU, Port Harcourt!

Do you think this will fix Nigeria’s governance challenges, or is it a bad move for democracy? Does a 6-year term give leaders too much power, or is it the stability we need?
