GOVERNANCE & ECONOMY: Fubara Advocates for God-Fearing Leadership; CBN Partners with CISON for Data-Driven Policy

In a dual focus on ethical governance and economic strategy, Rivers State is seeing significant developments this week as state leadership calls for moral renewal and financial institutions push for data-backed policy-making.

Fubara Calls for "God-Fearing Leadership"

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reignited the national conversation on governance, emphasizing that Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges stem from a fundamental lack of the "fear of God" in leadership recruitment.

Speaking at the Government House, Port Harcourt, during a reception for the World President of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pastor Erton Kohler, Governor Fubara argued that leaders who recognize the supremacy of God are more inclined to protect society rather than exploit it.

The Path to Progress: The Governor linked issues such as corruption, poverty, and criminality directly to the absence of moral accountability in high places.

Vision for the Workforce: Governor Fubara stressed that true "God-fearing" governance must prioritize the welfare of the working class. He proposed that if a worker could afford quality healthcare, quality education for their children, and housing after years of service, the temptation toward social vices would be significantly diminished.

Investing in the Future: He praised the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for its long-standing investment in education, noting that grooming "sound minds" is essential to producing the next generation of ethical leaders for Nigeria and the world.

CBN and CISON Forge New Data Partnership

In a move aimed at stabilizing the nation’s economic landscape, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Port Harcourt Branch, has announced a formal collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON).

The partnership, solidified during the inauguration of CISON’s pioneer executives and the official transition of the Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA) into its new chartered status, aims to move monetary policy away from speculation toward precision.

The Goal: The collaboration is designed to generate highly accurate and reliable data, providing the foundation for effective monetary policy formulation.

Expert Insight: Speaking on behalf of the CBN Branch Controller, Mrs. F. Ponde (Head of the Currency Management Centre) stated, "Now that you have become chartered, you will collaborate better, work better, and provide more accurate data for improved monetary policy decisions."

Strategic Planning: Stakeholders at the event highlighted that planning without accurate data is merely speculative. The partnership is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance professional standards, and pave the way for a more robust economic strategy at both state and national levels.
