Rivers State Reaffirms Strategic Partnership with Military at NADCEL 2026 Gala

The Rivers State Government has officially reiterated its commitment to deepening its collaboration with the Nigerian Army, underscoring the vital role of security in driving the state’s socio-economic prosperity.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma, conveyed this pledge on Sunday night while representing Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Gala Night, a centerpiece event of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) held in Port Harcourt.

Peace as the Bedrock of Development

Addressing military leadership, stakeholders, and attendees, Dr. Wokoma emphasized that a secure environment is the foundational pillar for any thriving economy.

"The ongoing cooperation we have with the military has greatly enhanced peace, stability, and economic progress in our state," the SSG stated. He further noted that the administration recognizes the Nigerian Army not only as a defense force but as a key partner in creating an enabling environment where residents can live and conduct business without fear.

Commitment to Operational Support

While acknowledging that the welfare of military personnel primarily falls under the purview of the Federal Government, Dr. Wokoma assured the Chief of Army Staff that the Rivers State Government remains dedicated to providing necessary logistical and operational support.

"Our doors have always remained open to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies working tirelessly for the peace and security of Rivers State," he added, pledging that the state would continue to complement federal efforts to ensure the effectiveness of troops deployed across the region.

Honoring Sacrifice

The SSG also used the occasion to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Army, acknowledging the sacrifices made by officers and soldiers in defense of the nation’s unity and democratic governance. He commended the military’s discipline and professional excellence, which have been on full display during the week-long celebrations in the Garden City.

The NADCEL 2026 events, which have included the inauguration of over 250 humanitarian and infrastructure projects nationwide including several schools and water facilities across Rivers State concluded today with the grand finale in Port Harcourt.
