Oil Production Surges as Governor Fubara Backs Military Crackdown on Bunkering

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has lauded the Nigerian Army’s intensified operations against pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering, highlighting the direct link between enhanced security and the recent rise in Nigeria's crude oil production and national revenue.

The Governor made these remarks at the Government House, Port Harcourt, while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who is in the state to lead the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL 2026).

A Tangible Economic Impact

Governor Fubara emphasized that the concerted efforts of the Nigerian Army specifically the 6 Division to secure critical oil and gas infrastructure have transformed the economic landscape.

"I can conveniently say that oil production has tremendously increased and our oil revenue is making progress because of the support of the Nigerian Army," the Governor stated. He noted that by curbing criminal elements involved in crude oil theft, the military has ensured that these national assets can operate without the constant disruptions that previously hindered the state's and nation's prosperity.

Security as a Shared Responsibility

During the visit, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing continued logistical and operational support to security agencies. He stressed that the state government views the safety of lives and property as a collaborative mandate.

"We owe you our support, and we will continue to do whatever is necessary to ensure you succeed in your assignment," he pledged, noting that the positive effects of the military's current operations are being felt by every citizen in the state.

Rivers State: A Safe Haven for National Events

Addressing the choice of Port Harcourt as the host for the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration, Governor Fubara noted that the presence of high-ranking military officials and international delegates from across Africa sends a powerful message.

"We are delighted that you chose Rivers State for this very important celebration. It speaks to two things: that Rivers State is peaceful, and Rivers State is worth securing," the Governor remarked.

The military operations against economic sabotage in the Niger Delta remain a core component of the state’s broader security strategy, with the Governor promising that the government will not rest on its oars in maintaining the current momentum.
