Cracking Down on Economic Sabotage: Nigerian Navy Smashes Illegal Refining Networks in Rivers State

Security operations across Rivers State have dealt a heavy blow to economic saboteurs, as the Nigerian Navy intensifies its offensive against crude oil theft and illegal bunkering.

Through sustained, intelligence-led operations under Operation Delta Sentinel, naval personnel have successfully smashed multiple illicit refining networks and uncovered concealed storage hubs across the state. Recent targeted raids conducted by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder in the Egbema axis of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area led to the disruption of active illegal refining sites, where operatives recovered approximately 85,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

Dismantling the Logistics of Oil Theft

The ongoing maritime and land-based campaigns are systematically dismantling the infrastructure required to sustain the illicit petroleum trade. Additional operations by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny uncovered hidden storage networks containing tens of thousands of litres of stolen crude oil stored across unauthorized dugout pits and reservoirs.

According to military authorities, these continuous interventions are designed to protect critical national assets, safeguard the maritime environment, and support federal efforts to restore optimal output within the nation's oil and gas sector. The Navy has reiterated its commitment to maintaining intense operational pressure to ensure that criminal syndicates and economic saboteurs are denied any operational foothold in the region.
