The Rivers State Police Command has stepped in to calm frayed nerves across the metropolis, firmly dismissing a viral audio message and accompanying photograph claiming that female kidnappers disguised as market traders are operating around strategic locations in Port Harcourt.
The misleading post, which made the rounds on various social media platforms, featured an image of women dressed in market attire seated beside a commercial bus alongside claims that they were apprehended during an attempted abduction. However, security authorities have clarified that the viral content is entirely false and weaponized misinformation.
Digital Assessment Confirms AI Fabrication
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, preliminary digital and intelligence assessments revealed clear indicators that the circulated photograph was Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated.
Following the panic sparked by the post, the command activated verification protocols, reaching out to all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical formations across the state. The checks confirmed that no such incident had occurred or been reported at any police division within Rivers State.
