Crisis Looms in Omoku over Kingship Tussle

The Oba of Ogbaland in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government area ( ONELGA) of Rivers State, HRM Nnam Chukwumela Obi, Saturday crowned a former OSPAC secretary, Emeka Agbabre as new Eze Obosi, ignoring the current occupant, His Royal Highness, Friday Ekoji (JP).

The Oba's decision appears not to have gone down well with the people of Obosi as his action has ignited an unrest in the community.
Obosi, one of the host communities of Nigeria Agip Oil Company, has been on the spotlight for the past three months following it's protest and demand for the company to pay royalties and benefits to the autonomous Omoku communities as against a central Omoku leadership.

It was gathered that the ousted monarch had thrown his weight behind the action of his people which saw the production site of the company in the community shut down by the youths and women for over a month.

As at the time of filing this report, the new monarch crowned yesterday at the Oba's palace has reportedly stayed clear of his house in Obosi as aggrieved women and youths kept vigil in his house to confront him for accepting the crown  which City News learnt is an abberation and has never happened in the community.

One of the aggrieved youths asserted that, "Oba crowned Eze Obosi that can't reach his house after leaving the palace. All the Obosi youths and women kept night vigil in his house, only God knows where he passed the night with his new crown, first in history.

"Omoku of today is not the Omoku of yesterday that anyone no matter how highly placed will do whatever he pleases and go free".
