A Gift to the Niger Delta — Platform Petroleum Commissions O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre in Akuku-Toru

History was made in Obonoma on April 8, 2026.

Platform Petroleum Limited officially commissioned the O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre for Digital Innovations in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State — and in doing so, planted a seed that could redefine the future of an entire generation in the Niger Delta.

The commissioning was performed by His Eminence, Bishop John Onaiyekan, in a ceremony that drew traditional rulers, religious leaders, captains of industry, community stakeholders, youth representatives, and senior executives of Platform Petroleum — among them Vice Chairman, Mr. Ojunekwu Augustine Avuru, and Managing Director/CEO, Mr. John Anim.

But the heartbeat behind the project is personal.

The centre was donated by the Chairman of Platform Petroleum, High Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, as a tribute to his late father, High Chief O.B. Lulu-Briggs — a man whose name has long been synonymous with community development, people-first leadership, and transformative giving across Rivers State. In commissioning this centre in his honour, High Chief Dumo ensures that legacy lives on in the most practical way possible: by equipping the next generation.

And what a facility it is.

Loaded with over 280 networked computers, the O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre is designed to serve as a premier hub for Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and digital learning — removing the burden of long travel to Port Harcourt for residents across Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru, and Degema Local Government Areas. For communities that have historically had to go far just to access basic digital services, this centre brings the future right to their doorstep.

Speaking at the event, High Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs made clear that this is not just about computers. It is about preparing young people for a world driven by artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and technology-led enterprise — skills that will determine who thrives and who is left behind in the decades ahead.

The presence of Bishop Onaiyekan added a dimension that went beyond infrastructure. This is a moral investment. A social investment. A bet on the people of the Niger Delta that says: your potential is worth building for.
