Nine Years of Love — Agbani Darego and Ishaya Danjuma Mark Their Wedding Anniversary

She conquered the world at 18. Now, she's winning at love.

Nigeria's own Agbani Darego — the first indigenous African woman to win the Miss World crown, which she claimed in 2001 — is marking another milestone with her husband, Ishaya Danjuma, as the couple celebrates nine years of marriage.

Agbani and Ishaya tied the knot in a beautiful private ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco on April 8, 2017. Ishaya is the son of General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) — one of Nigeria's most prominent billionaires, former Minister of Defence, and renowned philanthropist.

From that stunning Moroccan wedding to today, the couple has built a quietly beautiful life together. They welcomed their first son in September 2018 and their second son in December 2020.

And the love? Still going strong.

A lovely video of the couple recently made the rounds on social media, capturing Agbani looking breathtaking as she stepped out with her husband — a reminder that nine years in, these two are still very much each other's person.

For Port Harcourt, this is personal. Agbani is an Abonnema native who was born in Lagos and relocated to Port Harcourt at age two, where she was raised in D-Line. She attended Bereton Montessori Nursery and Primary School, and at ten was sent to boarding school to shield her from her mother, who had become seriously ill with breast cancer. She later attended Federal Government Girls' College, Abuloma, and went on to study Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Port Harcourt.

From the streets of D-Line to Miss World. From Port Harcourt to Morocco. From the crown to the altar — and now, nine beautiful years later.

Happy anniversary, Agbani and Ishaya. Port Harcourt is proud. 🥂👑
