Fubara Honours Two Commitments in One Day — Bayelsa with Tinubu, Koroma with Barinada's Family

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, had a full and meaningful Friday.

He began the day in Bayelsa State, standing alongside Governor Douye Diri to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a one-day state visit. The presidential trip marked the inauguration of four landmark projects delivered by the Diri administration — chief among them a 60-megawatt gas turbine power project designed to strengthen electricity supply and stimulate economic growth across the state.

But as soon as duties in Bayelsa were fulfilled, Governor Fubara made his way back to Port Harcourt — and straight to Beth-El Anglican Church in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area.

There, he joined family, friends, political associates and well-wishers at a solemn service of songs in honour of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District. The atmosphere was one of deep reflection, unity, and heartfelt tribute — a room full of people celebrating a life that clearly left its mark.

Governor Fubara did not hold back in his tribute.

He described the late senator as a principled, straightforward man — a steadfast fighter for his people whose contributions to public life would not be forgotten. "I had an engagement in Bayelsa, an event beyond my control," the governor said, "but what is most important is that I am here to pay my last respects to a senator who represented my senatorial district."

He acknowledged that while gatherings like this bring some comfort, only God can truly console a grieving family and fill the kind of void that death leaves behind. On the inevitability of that death, Fubara was reflective — noting that while much in life can be managed and controlled, death remains the one appointment no one can postpone.

The governor closed by reaffirming what he had expressed in an earlier condolence message: that Senator Mpigi's legacy of service, courage, and integrity would continue to inspire long after the tributes have faded.
