The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has officially ushered in a new era of leadership. Following the successful completion of Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill’s five-year tenure, the institution has formally welcomed Professor Princewill Chike as its 10th Vice-Chancellor.
A Smooth Transition
The transition took place earlier this week in a colorful ceremony held at the University's CBN Hall, where Professor Georgewill officially handed over the mantle of leadership. This followed a week-long celebration that honored Professor Georgewill’s administration, featuring legacy project tours, public lectures, and thanksgiving services that highlighted his contributions to infrastructure and academic growth.
The New Agenda: "A Shared Vision"
In his inaugural address titled “A Shared Vision for a Globally Respected University,” the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Princewill Chike, unveiled an ambitious eight-point strategic agenda aimed at elevating the institution's global standing. His core pillars include:
Academic Excellence & Quality Assurance
Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Translation
Digital Transformation & ICT-Driven Governance
Institutional Harmony & Inclusive Leadership
A Strong Stance on Discipline
Professor Chike did not mince words in his first address to the university community. He issued a stern warning against vices that threaten the institution's reputation, specifically citing cultism, sexual harassment, bribery, and fraud.
"My administration will operate with zero tolerance for misconduct," he stated, urging staff and students to embrace a culture of integrity and accountability. He further encouraged students and academic unions to prioritize dialogue and amicable resolution of issues, emphasizing that his office remains open for constructive engagement.
As UNIPORT approaches its Golden Jubilee, the university community looks forward to this new leadership with high expectations for continued innovation and excellence.
Congratulations to Professor Princewill Chike on his appointment! We at PORTHARCOURTBLOG are excited to see the progress and new milestones the University of Port Harcourt will achieve under this new leadership.
