"Promises Kept": Hon. Akuro Tobin Scales Up Human Capital Development in Okrika

The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro Tobin, has reaffirmed that his administration’s development agenda is built on a foundation of "verifiable actions" rather than rhetoric. During the recent flag-off for the second phase of the Tobin Akuro Prosperity Pathway (TAPP) project, the Chairman emphasized that his commitment to the people of Okrika remains steadfast and result-oriented.

Empowering the Grassroots

The TAPP initiative, which has become the flagship human capital development program under Tobin’s administration, continues to deliver tangible support to indigenes. In the latest phase, the council is empowering 500 residents across various communities:

Financial Grants: 400 traders, market men and women, and local entrepreneurs have been awarded cash grants of N150,000 each to boost their businesses and stimulate the local economy.

Skill Acquisition: 100 individuals are slated for intensive vocational training in high-demand fields, including industrial welding, scaffolding, beauty treatments, fashion design, and hair/wig making.

"When I made my campaign promises to the good people of Okrika, I vowed to ensure that our development projects would be transparent, people-centered, and impactful," Hon. Tobin stated during the presentation of a symbolic cheque of N105 million for the project.

Beyond Empowerment: Infrastructure and Utility

Addressing other critical needs of the Local Government, Hon. Tobin took a firm stance on the ongoing power challenges in the area. Dispelling rumors regarding electricity bill payments, he clarified that the Council has been actively footing the bills for the community. He promised the immediate replacement of 50 damaged high and low-tension poles to restore power and spur economic growth, further noting that his administration is working closely with Community Development Committees (CDCs) to identify areas requiring additional infrastructural support.

A Legacy of Performance

Hon. Tobin’s leadership has consistently drawn praise from community stakeholders. Prof. Isaac Zeb-Opibi, who served as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, lauded Tobin as the "performing Chairman," noting that the TAPP project is effectively tackling the challenge of "unemployability" by fostering self-reliance and enterprise.

As the administration continues to push forward with its "Renewed Hope" agenda, the message from the Council secretariat is clear: development in Okrika is not just being discussed it is being delivered.
