
In a major display of political solidarity, the chairmen of the 23 Local Government Councils in Rivers State recently led a delegation to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to meet with the Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The delegation, led by the Rivers State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government (PHALGA), Sir Allwell Ihunda, used the visit to commend Minister Wike’s transformative infrastructure drive in Abuja. During the meeting, the council chairmen highlighted that Wike’s performance in the FCT serves as a point of pride for Rivers State indigenes, reinforcing their confidence in his leadership.
Beyond the courtesy visit, the council chairmen used the platform to make a firm declaration regarding the 2027 general elections. The delegation expressed their unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, signaling their commitment to his re-election bid. Sir Allwell Ihunda noted that political stakeholders in Rivers State have formed a broad coalition dedicated to securing a victory for the President, citing the administration’s development-driven leadership and commitment to the "Renewed Hope" agenda.
The visit underscores the ongoing political alignment within the state as stakeholders prepare for the upcoming electoral cycle.
