🚨 Health Alert: Rivers State Government Cracks Down on Illegal Clinics and Child Trafficking

In a major move to protect public health and safety, the Rivers State Government, through its Anti-Quackery Committee, has launched a decisive crackdown on illegal healthcare operations across the state.

Following extensive investigations, the committee successfully sealed six illegally operated health facilities and arrested seven suspects linked to these illicit practices.

The Details Behind the Operation

The intervention was driven by the government's commitment to sanitizing the healthcare system and eliminating "quackery," which authorities noted poses a severe threat to the lives of vulnerable residents.

Child Trafficking Exposure: One of the most alarming discoveries occurred at the Eldona Clinic in Elekahia, Port Harcourt. Investigations by the Nigeria Police Force uncovered evidence suggesting the facility was involved in the illegal exchange and sale of newborn babies.

Widespread Enforcement: The crackdown extended beyond Port Harcourt, with facilities sealed in various local government areas, including Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA), Obio/Akpor, and Emohua.

 List of Sealed Facilities:

 Eldona Clinic, Elekahia (Port Harcourt)

Blessed GoodNews Clinic, Bonny Street (Port Harcourt)

 PlaRiv Hospital, Omoku (ONELGA)

 Good Shepherd Hospital, Omoku (ONELGA)

Estate Clinic, Okahia Estate (Obio/Akpor)

Unregistered Patent Drug Shop, Ndele (Emohua)

A Message to Residents

Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, Chairman of the State Anti-Quackery Committee, emphasized that these arrests are only the beginning. The government is working in close collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure that all those involved in these illegal medical practices face the full weight of the law.

Residents are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious medical activities to the relevant authorities as the state continues its efforts to ensure that only qualified practitioners provide healthcare services in Rivers State.
